Offshore Angler: Carolina’s Mackerel Boat Fishing Guide is written for fishermen who travel the Carolina coast seeking saltwater game fish. While Inshore Angler covered hotspots and techniques for catching fish found in areas from inside the estuaries to just outside the inlets, Offshore Angler covers the primary game fish that are available to anglers in medium-range fishing boats out to 30 miles or so “off the hill.”

The number of fish species, fishing locations, and techniques for catching saltwater game fish is limitless. No book can pretend to cover all these possibilities. Offshore Angler is intended to create a guide for catching the most available and most highly sought fish offshore of the Carolina coastline, but also applies to these same species where they occur in other areas of the nation’s coastlines. Many of the chapters are based on the experience of professional guides, top recreational anglers, and tournament champions whose techniques have helped them win hundreds of thousands of dollars in tournaments all along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

The chapters are arranged in three-month fishing cycles, roughly showing the time each fish is most available or when a particular technique for catching the fish is most productive. The places and methods described in Offshore Angler have been tested in “trial by brine” and have been proven effective through uncountable hours spent on the ocean.

Reviews

“In Offshore Angler, author Mike Marsh presents expert tactics for catching popular Carolina saltwater game fish in a clear, well-organized fashion. A very experienced angler himself, Marsh instinctively tells the reader the sorts of information anglers need to know to catch fish: what gear you’ll need, where to go, what techniques to try, and how to alter tactics in response to different conditions. If you buy just one book on Carolina offshore angling, this one should be it.”
David F. Johnson, Editor, North Carolina Game & Fish magazine

Offshore Angler is one of the most complete guides to catching fish off North Carolina’s coast that I’ve ever read. But one word of warning: Upon finishing this book you could find yourself with an uncontrollable urge to pour lots of money into fiberglass and fishing gear.”
Chris Powell, Managing Editor, Wildlife in North Carolina

“Helpful to any reader—from expert to novice . . . Mike Marsh is among the state’s top five outdoor writers.”
Craig Holt, Managing Editor, North Carolina Sportsmen magazine
