If you enjoyed Ed Krause’s first novel, Our Kinfolks, you’ll love this sequel. One of the boys in that book is now twenty-four and in his last year at law school. His high school friend, a Native American who loves and protects birds, is mysteriously murdered. The young lawyer decides to move back to his hometown and establish a law practice so he can investigate his friend’s death.
He immediately becomes embroiled in a bitter fight between land developers and environmentalists over an Interstate highway project and the use of the Indian property. The young man resides on the Reservation in his deceased friend’s little camper. He falls in love with a family friend and the book centers on their relationship. Events turn ugly on the sacred lands; his safety and the people close to him are threatened as he attempts to find the killer.
Like the first book, Our Kinfolks, Ed Krause masterfully portrays humorous small town experiences blended with suspense. Ed is currently writing the third book in this trilogy, Our Kindred Spirits.
