Dick Brown
Dick Brown was born and raised in Spencer, North Carolina. His first attempt at writing was as a 10-year-old after seeing a movie about dinosaurs on a lost continent, many years before Jurassic Park. Those stories were kept hidden and consequently were lost over the years. His first byline came as a member of the Spencer High Life newspaper staff.
During his 27-year career as a graphic artist and supervisor of a graphic publications group for Raytheon, he earned a degree in journalism from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Dick worked as a journalist for the Commerce Journal (Commerce, Texas), the Herald Banner (Greenville, Texas), and the Bay City Tribune (Bay City, Texas).
He and his wife, Penny, moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, after his retirement as a journalist. He was inspired to try his hand at writing a novel after winning third place in a Winston-Salem short-story-writing contest. He put that idea on hold to write King of the Mountain, a creative nonfiction book, after reacquainting himself with Coach Jerry Moore nearly 20 years after Moore was fired by Texas Tech.
Dick resides in Winston-Salem with his wife, Penny, who is an artist in the medium of bead-weaving. Their three children and four grandchildren live in Texas, California, and Washington, D.C.
