Bill Elder
Bill Elder’s retirement brought to close an outstanding forty-year career as a coach and administrator in college athletics. He served as men’s basketball head coach for twenty-eight years at Northeast State Junior College, University of Montevallo, and University of Mobile, establishing an outstanding record of 549 wins and 288 losses. He also served as an athletic director for twenty-nine years at Northeast State Junior College, University of Mobile, LeTourneau University, Lindsey Wilson College, and Auburn University Montgomery.
Elder has been inducted into both the NAIA Basketball Coaches’ Hall of Fame and the University of Montevallo Sports Hall of Fame, and was recognized by the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame for his contribution to athletics in the city of Mobile. He served as president of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference for three years and was named Gulf Coast Conference Athletic Director of the Year on three occasions. In addition, he has been selected as a finalist for the NAIA National Athletic Director of the Year on two occasions. He lives in Montgomery, Alabama.
