Mike Freeman & Cindy Hazen

Mike Freeman & Cindy Hazen, authors of Memphis Elvis-StyleCindy, a native of Massachusetts, came to Memphis to see Graceland twenty years ago. Her van broke down during the trip, and she stayed in Memphis.

Mike, a longtime Memphis resident, never saw Elvis around town. It was only after Elvis’s death in 1977 that Mike began the collection of Elvis clippings, books, and recordings that now overflows his house.

For seven years, they co-owned a famous home in Memphis at 1034 Audubon Drive; the first home that Elvis Presley bought. Because he lived there in 1956, when he made history, that home is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They sold the home to the Mike Curb Foundation, who in turn donated it to Rhodes College. The Curb Foundation plans to complete the restoration of the house, after which the college will use it as part of its school of music history.

Mike now conducts organized tours of Elvis sites in Tupelo, Mississippi, and Memphis.
