Elizabeth Leland

Elizabeth LelandElizabeth Leland, a Charleston native, has degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Kent in Canterbury, England. For more than 20 years, she wrote about the people and places of the Carolinas. The profiles in Vanishing Coastwere written while she worked for the Charlotte Observer. She was a 1992 Neiman Fellow at Harvard University and has won the Ernie Pyle Memorial Award for human-interest writing. She is a three-time winner of the Associated Press’ Thomas Wolfe writing award. Elizabeth is also the 2006 Darrell Sifford Memorial Prize in Journalism winner. She lives in Charlotte with her husband, Luke Largess, and they have two children, Jack and Abbie.
