Susan Byrum Rountree
Susan Byrum Rountree has visited the Nags Head area every summer of her life. A freelance writer and essayist, she grew up in the small town of Scotland Neck and has long written about the people and places of eastern North Carolina. The mother of two, she lives in Raleigh, where she was a former monthly columnist for the News and Observer. Nags Head was her first book. Since then, she has written In Mother Words, a collection of essays about motherhood, published by Chapel Hill Press.
