Diane Silcox-Jarrett grew up in Roanoke, Virginia, and Burlington, North Carolina. She graduated from Elon College in 1981. She worked as a news director for a radio station, and for the state of North Carolina, writing speeches for the governor and other state officials. She has served as a creative writing tutor and instructor at writers' workshops. She currently lives near Raleigh, North Carolina, with her husband, Alex, and her son, Daniel.
