This authorized biography of Senator Howell Heflin covers the life and times of one of the most famous Alabama politicians ever.

A former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court,  Heflin earned national acclaim for his reform of the state's judicial system.  Heflin was also one of the last of the Roosevelt-style progressive Democrats to serve in the U.S. Senate.  He brought a level of integrity and commitment to his position, and was a key figure in many important and controversial debates.

As Senator Ted Kennedy said, "His story should be required reading for all citizens who believe that one person can make a difference."
