As this finely crafted collection proves once again, Frye  Gaillard is a powerful writer. --Dori Sanders, author of Clover

Frye Gaillard is sort of a gentle giant among Southern journalists. He treads softly and carries this huge conscience; he never  calls attention to himself but we always know where he stands, and he'll find something positive where all the rest of us despair. --Hal Crowther, syndicated columnist and author of Armed and Dangerous

Excellent. Frye Gaillard interprets the complex and diverse qualities that define the minds and temperaments of Southerners. Authentic, sensitive and knowledgeable, The Heart of Dixie enlarges understanding of our nation's most distinctive region. --Alexander Heard, Chancellor Emeritus, Vanderbilt University

Few writers have probed so deeply into the heart and soul of the South as has Frye Gaillard, and few have laid this complex region so bare for all to see and understand. In this collection of incongruous characters whose hearts are deeply rooted in what the South was, is, and could be, Gaillard again shows why the South still stirs such deep feelings and remains the nation's most fascinating region.
