Bright Mountain Books

Bright Mountain Books Logo

Bright Mountain Books was established by Eric and Cynthia Bright in 1983 in Asheville, North Carolina, drawing upon their early career experiences in Boston, where Cynthia edited nonfiction at Beacon Press and Eric designed elementary textbooks for Ginn and Company. The Brights operated Bright Horizons, a regional book distribution business, full time and published books part time during the 1980s and '90s. Carol Bruckner was a key employee of Bright Horizons, and after Eric's death in 2002, she and Cynthia have continued the publishing activities in Fairview, just east of Asheville.

Currently, Bright Mountian Books has dozens of books in print, all written by local authors or having subject matter relevant to the region. Historical Images is an imprint of Bright Mountain Books and is used primarily for reprints of earlier books still relevant for today's reader. Bright Mountain strives to give visibility to the area's talented writers and to celebrate the history and traditional culture of western North Carolina and the southern Appalachian mountains.
