Bache's
characters are finely drawn. Her sense of timing and skill at
building suspense are right on the money. And her richly detailed fire
scenes are nothing short of breathtaking. --Charlotte Observer
As you read, you
might find yourself almost in need of medical attention for smoke
inhalation. The author is also skilled at creating other fires--passions
inside the vivid townfolk. --Indianapolis News
Bache's ability
to evoke a particular time and place is remarkable. --Kirkus Reviews
Danger fills the air in a
North Carolina beach town as wildfires from the surrounding woodlands
move closer. In the midst of the growing crisis, the lives of three
strangers touch and entwine--a school administrator who also works as a
volunteer firefighter, a feisty high school "Azalea Princess"
in the local Azalea Festival, and a beautiful but unhappy jewelry-maker.
As the three become
increasingly involved with each other, the fire overtakes the town--and
forces each of them to confront the things they fear most.
How many of them will survive
the test?
