Ilan Stavans is a Mexican-American essayist, lexicographer, cultural commentator, translator, short-story author, TV personality, and teacher known for his insights into American, Hispanic, and Jewish cultures. Former host of the PBS series Conversations with Ilan Stavans, he has written, edited, and translated more than 50 books, including On Borrowed Words (2001), Spanglish (2003), Love and Language (2007), and Gabriel Garcia Marquez: The Early Years (2010). He is the Lewis-Sebring professor in Latin American and Latino culture at Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts.
