Kevin Adams has always loved nature and the outdoors. He spent many childhood vacations in the mountains searching for waterfalls with his mother and older brothers. As an adult, Kevin discovered his talent for photography and combined it with his hobby of researching and collecting data about the natural world. His photographs have been published in books, calendars, and magazines including Outdoor Photographer, Blue Ridge Country, and Our State. He is also the author of Waterfalls of Virginia and West Virginia, Hiking Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and North Carolina’s Best Wildflower Hikes.
Kevin decided long ago that he would concentrate on his home state of North Carolina and photograph what he loves. In 1994, no comprehensive book was available about North Carolina’s many waterfalls, so it made sense to Kevin to write one, and North Carolina Waterfalls was published. After ten years, he felt the original needed updating, so he set out on another relentless quest and wrote the revised edition, which includes hundreds more waterfalls. Kevin’s research required him to hike to each and every waterfall, and he often found himself in waist-deep water, all for the perfect photograph.
Kevin enjoys teaching photography workshops, leading photo tours, hiking, and kayaking. In his spare time, he can most likely be found following his passion for the outdoors trudging through the swamps, sand flats, old-growth forests, and mountain trails of the Tar Heel State. He resides in High Point, North Carolina, with his wife, Patricia, and their ugly Persian cat, Asa.
