Reviews

"Lavishly illustrated, these books are more than your common tour guides; they become part of your Civil War studies. Nicely priced, these books will grace your historical library or supplement your glove compartment collection. They are highly recommended."
Civil War News

"Both of Johnson’s books are well made. Each book is packed with pictures and text.... I would highly recommend both of these books if you are planning summer or fall vacations to the mid-Atlantic states."

Clint's interview on WGHP TV in High Point, N.C.:

Praise for Clint's Touring Books

Touring the Carolinas’ Civil War Sites is an ideal and essential travel guide for Civil War buffs wishing to visit the numerous North Carolina and South Carolina Civil War memorial sites and battlefields. A life-long Civil War buff, Clint Johnson draws upon his considerable expertise to present the meticulous results of exhaustive research in an articulate, reader-friendly text that is augmented throughout with area photography. Touring the Carolinas’ Civil War Sites is a highly recommended addition to personal and regional Civil War studies and reference book collections.”
Midwest Book Review

“Simply put, the book [Touring the Carolinas’ Civil War Sites] is well organized, well written, and I have just about worn out my copy on my trips through the Carolinas.”
—Reader review

“This book [Touring the Carolinas’ Civil War Sites] is invaluable to the Civil War enthusiast when touring the battlefields and sites of the Carolinas. The tours are filled with surprises that are off the beaten path and the directions are lifesavers. Without this book I’d have missed some priceless side trips. I’d highly recommend this book to anyone taking a Civil War tour of the Carolinas and look forward to more such books from Clint Johnson in the future.”

“Johnson’s writing style is engaging without being simplistic and he takes the pains to write excellent directions to the many Civil War sites in both Virginias. Thankfully, he groups the many sites by geography instead of time frame. While the better-known sites are covered (Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Wilderness, Chancellorsville, Richmond, Petersburg, both Bull Run battles, Appamattox, etc.), Johnson also covers lesser-known events (Saltville, Mine Run, Chantilly, etc.). Doing this gives the reader a better appreciation of the quantity of Civil War engagements in the area and also makes the reader aware of sites the typical person may miss. All in all, an excellent and highly recommended read!”
