According to recent surveys,
over 60 million tourists visit the Sunshine State annually. Although
Florida’s well-oiled tourism machine can provide tons of brochures to
help the visitor select what to do, the amount of material can be
overwhelming. In Traveling Florida, experienced travel writers
Vernon and Cathy Summerlin offer assistance to the befuddled traveler.
In 35 chapters, the
Summerlins take the visitor on either a loop tour of several towns and
sites or a whirl around one particularly interesting destination.
Written in a personal style that shows the authors actually visited the
places they write about, these tours include a short history of the
area, descriptions of things that are worth seeing, information about
festivals and special events, and suggestions for lodging, dining,
entertainment, and outdoor activities. Many of these recommended stops
are places known only to the locals and are therefore not crowded with
tourists.
about the author
Vernon and Cathy Summerlin have written three other books using
a format similar to Traveling Florida: Traveling Tennessee,
Traveling the Trace, and Traveling the Southern Highlands.
They are also the authors of the Highroad Guide to the Tennessee
Mountains, and they have co-hosted an award-winning weekly radio
program heard in three states called Destination Outdoors. Vernon
has co-hosted two other weekly radio programs, Outdoors with Vern and
Doug and Tennessee Angler Radio, as well as serving as editor
of Tennessee Angler magazine for several years.
